Vegetables and Herbs

Herbs

It is time to plant your Vegetable and Herb gardens.  Spring is in the air and the plants are growing.  With so many varieties to choose from you can grow plants that fit your palette.  There is no better feeling then to pick your own herbs and vegetables from your yard and incorporate those fresh ingredients into your food.

There are so many options to choose from to establish your garden.  It doesn't matter how much of an area you have because you can plant in a traditional garden, patio with pots or even a window sill.  The care will be different for each plant.  It is best to find out which plants are compatible with each other (with light, water and fertilizer) to get the best out of your garden.  Head down to your local supplier and have some fun.

Wax Flowers

Chamelaucium unicinatum

Wax Flower

The waxflower is a shrub that produces miniature flowers and leaves resembling pine needles borne on slender, woody stems. Waxflower has a great fragrance with a strong citrus lemon smell when crushed.  The bloom is available at any season of the year in pink, white, crimson or lilac shades and colors. The cut flower last about 8-10 days in a floral arrangement.

This is a great filler cut flower that can be used in various designs and floral arrangements.  With the different colors available is it a versatile alternative to Gypsophila.

When the flowers arrive, re-cut 1/2" from the base of each Wax Flower stem under water using a sharp knife.  Remove any foliage that may become submerged after re-cutting.  Keep the water in the vase of your Waxflower fresh.  Replace the water every 3 days with cold water keeping the water level near the top of the vase.
