Feature Plant of the Month
Kalanchoe
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana

This is a beautiful flowering succulent. They have a bouquet of flowers that range in color from white, yellows, oranges, pinks, purples, reds and everything in between. The dark green foliage really provide a great contrast to show off the flowers. Outdoors it naturally blooms during the winter and spring months.
The Kalanchoe is well adapted to be used as an interior plant or outside in a shady to part shady area. Looks great as a mass planting as well as to add color for planters.
The Kalanchoe is very tolerant of abuse. It can take extremes of very little water, full sun or full shade. Ideally the plant should be placed either indoors with high light or in a partial shady area outdoors. Water when soil gets dry to the touch and fertilize once a month.

Feature Flower of the Month
Gerbera Daisy
Gerbera jamesonii

The Gerbera Daisy is a beautiful large disc daisy flower. Native to South Africa and Asia. The flower colors range anywhere from light shades with dark centers to the opposite of dark colors with light centers.
Typically the Gerbera Daisy is used either to compliment a mixed bouquet or as a stand alone bouquet of just Gerbera Daisy. They give a classic retro look to any area.
When the Gerbera Daisies arrive they should be re-cut under water about 1-2" from the previous cut. They should also be placed in a container that has been sanitized to reduce bacterial rotting from occuring. Keep away from drafts and hot areas. Change water every 3 days and use a cut flower food if possible. The flowers can last up to two weeks if properly cared for.
